We need Help
This theme does everything you could possibly want it to do and not only that.
We are a potential member organisation of the proposed new Devon Mental Health and Suicide Alliance: an alliance of local organisations dedicated to suicide prevention and after-care for those bereaved by suicide, who bring their collective wisdom to the issues of Mental Health and Suicide.
We are also a member organisation of the NSPA - an alliance of public, private and voluntary organisations in England who care about suicide prevention and are willing to take individual and collective action to reduce suicide and support those bereaved or affected by suicide.
In the UK, suicide is the biggest killer of young people and men under fifty, yet two-thirds of people who take their own lives do not approach their GP or health professional.
“We believe it doesn’t have to be this way and that suicide can be preventable”
Action To Prevent Suicide CIC originally founded by Chukumeka (Chukes) Maxwell in 2017 is a not-for-profit or profit with a purpose community interest company. It is run by a range of part-time freelance associates, university interns and project workers, who feel drawn to making a difference and promoting life.
COVID-19 2020 has called for us to revise our organisation offering more online style courses, a support service and greater collaboration with other organisations and a range freelance trainers and people of lived experience echoing the mantra that:
"Suicide prevention is everybody’s business"
Our collective vision is “a life-affirming world freer from suicide”. We wish to raise awareness, breaking the stigma and taboo. In order to prevent suicide by helping people recognise and support those with thoughts. We do this by offering a range of services such as consultancy, briefings, training, advice, collaboration, support and signposting. Intervention services through learning and skills and postvention services (after suicide support services with those bereaved.

Suicide can be an emotionally charged subject. Each person is affected by grief in their own unique way. Any service about suicide attempts or concluded maybe helpful and emotionally cathartic and healing. A grieving process is uniquely personal for family relationships: parents, siblings, relations, friends and for the broader society.
For this reason, if you are or have recently been attempted or bereaved by suicide, we recommend that you reflect as whether this is the right time for you attend any of our courses or services.
We are aware that for some people, the word “suicide” can create many different unexplored thoughts to arise. Whilst wanting to reduce the stigma and taboo, we are aware that any sudden death can be as distressful to deal with.
We are happy to connect and talk to you prior to any decision you make and offer what support that you require of us or organisations that we collaborate with. We want to respond to sudden death too as the world pandemic has made us aware of this.
Our face to face training has been stopped in light of COVID-19 in the UK. However, we are able to offer you online training via the LivingWorks Start service with an additional support service by ATPS after the course has been taken.
We, at Action To Prevent Suicide, are very dedicated to breaking the stigma around suicide. Breaking the silence and starting a conversation can save a life. If you or someone you know is at risk of harming themselves or those around them, it’s very important that you get the help you need as soon as possible. If you're feeling that you want to die, it's important to tell someone straightaway.
Instilling life-saving skills throughout communities will protect everyone (adults and children) where they live, work, play, and learn
Creating a community-based approach to suicide prevention will result in a "suicide safer" community
Enabling everyone to play a role will create powerful safety networks to support those in need
Believe that suicide is preventable

Donate NowWe are looking at training volunteers locally, regionally and nationally in suicide prevention at a community level within the broader system. Through our relationship with Goodwill ATPS CIO we would like volunteers and befrienders to run these services.
